Hi
Can you put a chest freezer next to a radiator at all? We cannot put in elsewhere due to lack of space
Thanks

yes no problems. fridge and freezers these days have good enough insultation that it won't be a problem.0

I would have said not a good idea. Hot and cold together. Your freezer will be working harder to keep the food frozen. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0

Oh now I don't know0

my parents have fridge/freezer next to rad an no problems at all, no noticeable increase in bills since it was moved.
this has been asked quite a bit on this forum and several people have agreed with me previously
honestly, the fridges and freezers are insulated so well these days, so long as its a relatively new freezer you'll be fine0 -
You are not directly applying heat to the surface of the freezer, warm air will convect away. As Drummer_666 says it will be ok. My parents had a fridge freezer next to a rad for 20 odd years and it was still working when they got rid of it as they were moving house. If you were covering the rad with the freezer then you could expect neither the rad or the freezer to be working at their optimum effeciency (ie blocking heat from getting into the room from the rad and not allowing the heat exchanger to dissipate the heat well from the freezer.) however next to each other both will be fine. Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0

I guess it depends what you mean by "next to".
A freezer will have its own radiator at the back, which is uses to lose the heat drawn out of the inside of the cabinet. If you placed the freezer so that the freezer's radiator was right in front of the heating radiator, then it would struggle to lose any heat and could end up running for far longer than it ought to.
However, if it's just to one side of the radiator, then it shouldn't be a big problem. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
What would be the idea distance between a small chest freezer and a medium sized rad? It is the only place I have to put a freezer, but I wouldn't like to put it somewhere where it's not going to perform well.0
