Nightmare Ebay Situation!

How did you know which address to send it to if the item hadn't been paid?????
I only get the address with the paypal payment... and of course I would NEVER send anything before payment!!0 -
We've done it a couple of times with low value items. E.g. sold 6 items, 5 people have paid, going to the post office that day. People have always paid.lancs-lady wrote: »I wouldn't send something that sold for 99p without payment first (like everyone else I presume, apart from OP that is, let alone something for so much value!)
But wouldn't dream of doing it for something of this value. Sorry OP.0 -
If he does manage to get it AND he still pays you, I think that the least you can do is refund him the postage.......
To be honest, OP hasn't done anything wrong that needs some sort of partial refund - assuming the buyer gets the item and pays.
Tracked postage wouldn't have helped, the buyer's address was wrong, seller sent without payment; six of one, half a dozen of another.
Thinking about it, this may be more common than we think - it may be why people can rack up so many false positives for non-payment without perhaps stopping to think why they're never getting any items.

That's immaterial - and they didn't tell the OP that initially, meaning that OP assumed they would want it posted. Why should the OP refund the postage? There is no item to collect now, it's gone somewhere else.JimmyTheWig wrote: »But the buyer didn't want to pay for postage, they wanted to collect.
And their address should really be up-to-date anyway."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Once an item has been bought you can click on the View Order Details link and see the buyers address with a recommendation not to post it before payment has been received.0 -
If they haven't paid, the address is not that relevant. He could have his newer address on Ebay too and not deleted it yet, if he's only recently moved. And their address should really be up-to-date anyway.
If the buyer came on here and asked what we thought of his seller having sent the Ipod before he paid and to his old address we'd most likely tell him the seller was making it up but just in case try the old address.
If everyone is honest then it could end up with just the loss of postage. That does rely on a lot of people being honest, the buyer, the people at his old address, the posties and anyone else the parcel comes into contact with.
Tracked post may have helped a bit in getting the item back or at least knowing it had been delivered.
I occasionally send items not paid for but only to customers I've dealt with before. I've only ever had one customer who thought that was how Ebay worked, still don't know if he was stupid or a chancer.
Only the value of the Ipod makes me think that the OP isn't having a festive wind up with the good forum users. If it was an Ipad or a laptop I'd have said it was a prank..0 -
Royal mail won't cover an iPod full stop for regular mail. Why did you send an iPod regular mail before a buyer had paid? Epitome of plonker!!!0

There may be a clue available regarding this - he asked to collect, so therefore he may *possibly* be living near to the OP (only possibly, as he may instead be a travelling salesman!). The question is then how far away from the OP was the item posted?
