It will get better!
Another idea is to go to a high street broker - they can look across a whole list of underwriters to find you the best deal.
Better still, they can also discount your policy themselves in order to get the business. They will get commission for selling a policy from the the underwriters - obviously higher premium policies are lucrative so they will want to sell you the policy (the sales person will desperately want to sell you a high premium policy as they will earn commission themselves) so use it to your advantage - threaten to go elsewhere if they can't do better for you.
high street brokers have more leverage for discounts that national companies who will have a set amount of discounts that they are allowed to apply (unless you're an existing customer).
I do think insurance is very expensive these days but it's like that to cover those that do drive without insurance deliberately without ever intending to obtain cover etc.
Don't worry - I understand why you're upset, I do empathise with you but you're just gonna have to take it on the chin for a little while!
P.S. If someone else can be named as the main driver (i.e. partner spouse), even if the policy is in your name it will make the premium cheaper too. But only do this if it is largely true otherwise considered Fronting.

I wondered about that - having someone else named as the main driver even though the policy is in my name - do you know if i would still accrue the no claims discount for that year if that was the case?
Many Thanks again :-)0 -
For it to be cheaper it would need to be a spouse or partner living with you generally.
You can set a policy up in your name and declare your spouse as main driver - the price will be lower but still you that earns the no claims discount. (the policy holder always earns the NCD).
Be careful though because if they think you are fronting they'll cancel your insurance.
For me, either me or my husband could be declared as main user as we use it equally as much.0 -
If no spouse or partner, it would be better for you if it was someone living at the same address as you. But not all insurers will accept this.

You must have a great sales record!0 -
Insurance is unfair. I dont like paying extra premium to cover the costs of uninsured drivers.
I think a fair premium would start at £5000.
Great advice there. NOT!!!.. I do hope your employer reads these boards.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I'm sure my employer does read these boards! In fact I hope they do!
I am not here to judge people on mistakes that they have made in the past. Just to help them make the best of a bad situation.
People make mistakes. My opinion of what this man did or did not do has no baring on his need for help.
Perhaps you need to think of that before you answer the post.
Remember the rules of the forum - if you've got nothing nice to say and you aren't posting a reply to help the person as they've asked then don't reply at all.0 -

How can it be ambiguous?
There is no ambiguity at all. You were caught driving without insurance. there is no 'ambiguity', there is no technicality. It's an open and shut case. Its black and white.
The reality is that now you have been banged to rights, you are likely to drive again without insurance. the insiurance industry is effectively trying to price you off the road as you are now an unacceptable risk.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
clearly charging £1000+ will make you think again not to make the same mistake again and again and again (at least not defeating the point of giving motoring convictions in the first place)
we all make mistakes. we should all learn from them as well.0 -
Another person whose misfortunes are clearly and identifiably their own fault, but feels they should suffer no negative consequences because of them.
