I've contacted the agents twice for more info on them if they are owned outright or rented as don't want to end up lumbered with some sort of contract or whatever but they have 't gotten back to me.
It was out of town surveyor who done the home report and city solicitors selling so the over pricing could be due to that rather than the panels themselves. The only recorded house sales in that street for the past 7 years are that very same house, once in 2005 for £103k and again in 2010 for £94k. It has new kitchen, bathroom & these panels and was up for £135k then dropped to £125k.
I do see them as a negative though and it seems the consensus is people don't like them so regardless of finding out the info on them I think I will just not bother with this house as if it is making me think twice in buying I would have the same if/when I sell it on.
    Thanks all
  • In answer to OP's question "Do people think solar panels add to the value?".
    I think some mistakenly do.

I'm with the "Won't touch with a bargepole" contingent, too.
  • If you bought a house with solar and the original owners benefitted from the early adopter higher feed in tariff, can this higher (original) rate be transferred to a new owner?

Yes. The contract remains with the property.

Then OP should ask to see a copy of that contract and all the terms and conditions before they proceed any further. If vendor's agents don't reply, then contact the vendor direct and ask them to have/borrow a copy, or find out who installed them and ask them for the details. If it proves too difficult to obtain this info, then walk away!

Indeed! You would thing the vendor would have actually made some attempt to educate the agent as to the technicalities.
