Solicitors Fees

Hi
I hate having to pay solicitors anything, and have managed most of my divorce on my own. Speaking once to a solicitor cost me £180 and he didnt tell me anything I did not already know.

But I have to now get a solicitor to have the house Im in, put in my name alone. I have been told yhis could cost me £400 +. I would like to know if there is any way around this. Or a cheaper alternative.

I don't know your circumstances. Perhaps you could at least get a calculation for legal aid? Look in the yellow pages you may find a charity that gives free advice and they will also often help out and follow through legal matters.

    Good Luck.

Hi. I recently had a transfer of equity to change my mortgage into my name from a joint name. It is a legal process which has to involve a solicitor. I too was quoted around the £400+ mark. However, After a lot of asking around I found an excellent service and here are the total charges for my transfer of equity= £246.25

    Solicitor fees £150 + £26.25vat
    Office copy entries £3
    Land Registry search £3
    Bankruptcy search £4
Land Registry fees for registration of new mortgage £60

PM me if you want their address. Cant promise its still this price though.

I think if it just a straight change of names then you can get a form from the land registry, all partires sign it in front of witness, send it back and the job’s done.

The land registry have a help line, obviously they can't give legal advice but they can tell you which form to use.

I've just had a look, there are lots of forms, I'd give the helpline a ring although TR1 looks like the one i used

and if it works we'll split the £400

Interesting! My financial adviser and the mortgage adviser at Nationwide told me I would need a soicitor. I'll be a little bit more than annoyed if its not the case. Its cost me money!

Ahh, I thought it was just a straight change of names, when I did it there was no mortgage involved
