may be people should make themselves aware and need to care how codes and promotional offers work so that they don't miss out or get frustrated when they miss out

It is always a good idea to limit it to certain number of stock and then the stock should show as not available when the use of code has reached its limit; alternatively set the code in such a way that it can be used only x000 number of times and then it should show that it is has reached its limit.

The whole point of promotions is to increase traffic to their site and for these codes to do the advertising part. When they have a code, the site would be advertised for free across money saving sites as these and also they clear of some of their stock. Clever move. The more we are aware of all these and actually care about it, we will also know how to take advantage of these offers whilst it is live instead of being outraged when it is vanished.

Totally agree with you - I've learnt alot from just coming on the MSE forums and reading others posts. Will certainly bare the above in mind when I see ASOS codes in future... and make sure I order quick if I want something!
  • It is not down to the consumer to seek out and learn about marketing promotions etc. It is down to the business to set out their terms and conditions clearly. If ASOS had said 20% etc off for the first 100 customers this would not have been a problem.

I don't know why everyone was so upset. ASOS did state the promo code would run until 12 noon on Monday however they have the right to end a promition whenever they want. I too missed out on the 20% off code but there were plenty of other codes and I even made up a few which actually worked on top of sale items too.

I think the codes end when so many customers have used them as a couple of codes were no longer active yesterday but there are still a few active ones as I used one on my order yesterday.

I can understand why people are annoyed, although also see ASOS have a right to do as they see fit.

ASOS has been around awhile now and as such should know the "what not to do" when it comes to discount codes. Perhaps they made a mistake releasing this code when they already had a good sale on.

It wasn't an unexpected glitch, but from what I gather a code to email subscribers went viral. Well a website such as ASOS should have had experience and knowledge that this can happen and plan accordingly, setting a minimum spend, not valid on sale items etc.
