Hi this is a bit of a follow up on a previous post but the first was more to do with setting up 2 routers to work together whereas this is more to do with not being able to access the 2nd router via my browser.
I am with Sky and my first router is Netgear router they supplied. My 2nd router is my old Belkin router which is a Wireless G router.
I have got everything working fine but just would like to be able to access my 2nd router via my browser where it stands ie I know I can bring it to my PC and access it that way but I would like to access it through the network.
I am connected LAN 1 to LAN 1.
After some reading on Google and the help on here, I set everything up, I turned off DHCP on the 2nd router. I found a setting on the 2nd router that lets you enable access from anywhere on the network (it was suggested that this was probably disabled by default). I then applied all changes , but this is what happens.
My Netgear IP default is 198.162.0.1 which I leave alone, my Belkin is 192.168.2.1 by default.
First question, I notice in my Netgear setup that starting IP and ending IP are 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.254 so is the Belkin IP effected by this ie is it ok if the Belkin IP is 192.168.2.1 or could this be a problem?
I thought it may be a problem so I tried changing it and then accessing it through the browser and the new IP worked in the browser but as soon as I took the power off the router and then put it back there seems no way to access the Belkin router (this is with it still plugged into the actual PC). What is happening here is it changing the IP on power on somehow?
The only way to avoid this problem so far is to leave it on the default IP, then I can access the Belkin menu, any ideas?
Next
Once I connect the routers up LAN 1 to LAN 1, even if i leave the Belkin on its default IP with the DHCP off and remote access enabled, everything works but I cannot access the Belkin router with any IP, what could be the problem?
Can anyone advise me please what else to do or is it obvious what I am doing wrong here?
Any help appreciated

Assuming that you have turned off DHCP on the Belkin, and the two routers are connected by ethernet you need to set the Belkin to be on the same ethernet sub network as the netgear , so put the Belkin back on your PC and change its IP address to 192.168.0.2 (or any spare address on the 192.168.0. network) then disconnect it from your PC ethernet cable and put the cable back between the two routers that should sort you.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Ok thanks, trying what you say now but straight away even using default IP for Belkin it wont let me in so going to reset it and then set all the settings again. It does not seem to like being unplugged from the main PC, when it gets plugged back in I cannot access it, why would it do that?0

I have just tried several addresses and it wont let me in (Belkin plugged into PC) I am currently on 192.168.0.98 and browser says could not connect to 192.168.0.98, am I missing something what is wrong here?0

Have you plugged the belkin to your PC via ethernet cable to change its Address ?4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy

Yes
Ok some success, tell me what you think, using 192.168.0.98,
when Belkin plugged into PC I cannot access it through browser but when plugged into other router it comes up on browser.
But then I plug cable in to PC for Netgear router and I get a pink screen with "401 Unauthorized another administrator online"
I think my PC has wireless which I never make use of so when I plug router 2 into router 1 and get access it must be via the wireless on router 1 but as I say then plugging in the cable (the way I normally use router 1) it gives this error message.
Hang on now it works perhaps I was not giving it long enough.0 -
What should I do about channels, should they be the same or different , I'm thinking what happens as you move about the house if it is different channels and if they interfere if they are the same?
Also I can see it in my Netgear menu system under attached devices as 192.168.0.98 now, but it also says unknown under device names, how could I give it a name, I have been through the whole menu on the Belkin and cannot figure out where I could give the Belkin router a name?
Really appreciate all the help by the way.0 -
The static IP you choose MUST be outside the range used by DHCP, otherwise you are going to encounter IP address conflicts.
Change the IP of the Belkin to 192.169.0.2, and change the DHCP range on the Netgear to start at 192.168.0.3 Then renew the DHCP lease on all devices that use the network.
The pink 'Unauthorised' message is probably coming from the netgear router. How do I add a signature?0 -
Brilliant, thank you. Ok I have done what you said, I thought leaving it a minute after doing anything would be fine but it seems to take several minutes before I can log in to the Belkin, once the IP is changed.
Can you shed any light for me on the other questions I asked above ie naming the Belkin device and channels being the same or different?0
