Appealing parking tickets

Just wondering if anyone has done this before and if so what success they had.
Just picked son up from school and had to park close to chemist and leave him in car. Came back and found warden had ticked me with him sitting waiting in front seat! I was on double yellow but I would have thought a little discretion would have been nice!

You must be kidding...... They don't give a s.h.1.t. I've seen them ticketing a car where a heavily pregnant woman had stopped on double yellow lines to pop into a chemist..... she came back out as they were doing it and they just told her there was nothing they could do and to appeal it!!! (I was sitting in an adjacent cafe listening to it all) They are complete a-holes..... they use no discretion or common sense...0 -

You can only challenge tickets if you have legitimate reasons for doing so, sounds like you don't. The redcoats seem to show very little discretion.0 -
You parked on a double yellow and got a ticket, I recommend paying it within 14 days to get it half price. Appeal and you will have to pay full price with possibly an extra admin cost.
That sounds really condescending (sorry) but it will save you a few quid in the long run, appeals don't work as you where in the wrong, regardless of circumstances, in the first place.I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
You didn't HAVE to park close to the chemist - you were too lazy to park properly and walk there so you parked illegally. Double yellow lines are there for a reason, not for your convenience.

You should post this on the parking board for more constructive advice, or go to Pepipoo, who are the acknowledged experts for advice on appealing council tickets, which it sounds like you have here.0

Legally your only come-back is if the double yellows had no perpendicular end bar as they are not 'proper' double yellows. The parking wardens are supposed to hang about for 5 minutes to see if you come back before ticketing your car.
Next time stick the hazard lights on. The laws don't apply to you if you have hazard lights on.Stercus accidit0 -

Nope - the appeals system now considers "normal wear and tear" acceptable. Unless its a blatantly botched lining job, its a lot less easy to get off on this one compared to a few years ago. The lines usually need to be a real mess for an adjudicator to go your way.
No - Strictly they can ticket as soon as they see your car, however local policy may specify an observation period - you would need to check council policy. Again though on a double yellow may be more strictly enforced in policy than a single or a parking bay.
Err...... :rotfl:0 -
Sorry but people who park on double yellow lines are a nuisance and can make roads dangerous to pedestrians. Yellow lines are there for a reason and there is no point in having them if they are not enforced. Having said this take advice from the parking section and pepipoo and they can help with an appeal.I'm retiring at 55. You can but dream.0

Have appealed when I got a ticket for exceeding the time by five or six minutes - and was successful in getting the ticket cancelled. But I was in a car park not on double yellows. There's a website with a guide to appealing tickets and whether they are legal etc here on MSE - think it called driving street or similar. Very useful!

What does the law say about parking in a Loading Only area?
Are these meant just for delivery vehicles or can you park in them if you are getting something from a nearby shop, and loading it into your car?0
