Growing Cabbages and Brocolli in a small space

Hello
I am tight on space i was wondering if anyone has tried to grow cabbages or brocolli in troughs or tubs?? as my soil is very chalky i have about 3" of top soil and then solid chalk.

Never tried that myself, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. I would certainly give it a go, maybe just have one plant per pot though?
Have you considered doing raised beds instead though? You can get raised bed kits, but if you are handy at all, you can make them yourself with summat like gravel boards. Added advantage - no bending.A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0 -

I will give a go i am growing most of my veg in car tyres and seeing what happens i have potatos in bins my carrots in buckets.
I am having a go a growing chinese cabbage (1 kilo f1) and some purple sprouting brocolli.
So far i have on the go 4 Hertiage Toms, Onion sets, Pots, Carrots, Pea's.
and plenty of softfruit Strawberrys, Raspberry, Sunberry, Red & Black Currant & Gooseberry.
My mum want's me to grow a indoor cucumber and some swedes. :eek:

They take up an awful lot of room, BB. Is it worth all the compost, water, care and attention for a single or couple of cabbages that will only go to make one meal? For the taste and satisfaction - yes! But not when you can really make your space work for you. Find some room for runner beans, dwarf green beans, radish or lettuce that you can pick through the summer and eat as you go along. They don't take up a lot of space and you'll get far more produce for all that effort.0
