Hi,

I have to sell a car for my aunt who is 86, she has a Nissan Micra which I think is a 2000 V reg three door automatic, she has only driven about 24000 miles in it. I have looked at different garages to try and get a value for the car but there don't seem many Micra automatics around and they seem pricey, but according to a local garage they are popular with older drivers

Can anyone give me a guide as to what I should be asking for it? I thought around £1700 ? it has a years tax and long MOT.

Thanks

The problem with selling a car like that is that the sort of older drivers who like them, tend to buy them new.

It's not likely to sell to a young driver, like other small-engined Micras might, because it's an automatic.

My parents have to have an automatic because my mother only has an automatic licence, and they have always found that they pay over the odds when buying (new or secondhand) but always end up getting a poor price secondhand when they try to sell. It seems unfair!

Honest John (from the Telegraph) is always disparaging low mileage cars like this - he reckons they have far more problems than a car which has done a "normal" mileage.

Whether it's been serviced annually, or not because of its low mileage, will also make a difference.

Sounds like a great little car to me. If it is as good as you say it is, then your price of £1700 is spot on. Don't try and part exchange it, rather sell it privately and you'll get the maximum amount that its worth.

If you have a private drive then put a "For Sale" sign in the window, don't do this when its on the public highway as councils have been known to tow away cars carrying such signs. Also, consider putting ads in Loot (free) as well as Autotrader (cost) and your local newspaper's classified section.

"Little old lady" cars get snapped up very quickly so I doubt you'll have trouble selling it.
