lost internet access after updating macafee

Hi..title asks the question. Am not great with computers but would appreciate any guidance about what to check and run through first before calling for help. We run x3 computers from a belkin router..others are fine..just my husband suddenly cant get out on the internet. Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Ok well what have you checked first of all with regards to the PC and what does the PC say when it says you cant connect.

    What steps have you tried?

You may need to set Macafee to "trust" the router. I've nver used Macafee, but his page may have the answers..

oh no, not another one.....mcafee released an update earlier this year which prevented the firewall element from allowing internet access, sounds like they haven't learned from last time :(

  • Thanks for above info...followed it all through but looks ok. Temporarily turned off the firewall and still no access...so assuming probably not macafee after all. Did discover though, husband did not set up scheduled scanning so well overdue. Scanning now... interogation of the p/c is showing a connectivety issue with installed LSP. Would I be right in assuming something has got in :( waiting for macafee on a slow computer but any other follow ups appreciated. Thank you,

you could uninstall it, and use avast and malwarebytes, both free instead, along with windows firewall.

Machine should run faster as a result.

Do you have access to another pc and a USB flash drive?

If you do , download the program below to the USB drive using the good computer, transfer it to the one with no internet then run it. Save the logs to the USB stick and then post the contents here using the other computer. The actual scan should only take 2-3 minutes.

Download DDS from the link below and save it to your USB drive:

    Link

After you've downloaded it and saved it to your USB drive and transfered it to the other computer:
    • Double click DDS to run it.
    • When it's finished, DDS will open two logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt
Save both reports to the USB drive.

Copy & paste the contents of just DDS.txt for now and post it here (you may need to split the log over separate posts)
  • I had the same issue. Restoring my PC to before the update and alls well - redo the update and no internet access. Tried 3 times. Turning off the firewall doesnt help - its somewhere else thats the issue. If you click the wiFi button bottom left and open - its says connected to WiFi but no internet access.

Spoke to McAfee and they said it was a PC issue not a McAfee issue, which it clearly isnt.

I already run Malwarebytes for Malware - so just downloaded Windows antivirus and Firewall. Works fine, so cancelled my McAfee. Thier loss.
