I got a durabrand mp3 player from asda today and the computer doesnt regonise it, i plugged it in via the usb cable and nothing comes up, says it is not connected, says in the manual no driver installation required unless u have windows 98/98se i have xp.

Anyone help?

I've seen this happen when another device (usually of similar nature) was used on the PC before you installed the new device.

Have you checked out the tech support on the manufacturer website? It may well be a known issue.

I take it you've looked in 'My Computer' & it's not there?

Can you be sure the USB port/cable is OK?

Tried different usb and it found the device but a message popped up saying the player has malfunctioned and windows does not regonise it! what do i do now?

try system restore to go back to yesterday and then try again

clcik on Start, then RUN and then type

msconfig ,then click ok

clcik on the services tab and see if plug and play is ticked

My system restore was turned off so only has todays date, about 5 mins ago! plug and play is ticked.

Have you tried Start > Control Panel > Add new Hardware?

Make sure device is connected and powered on first.
