Its your LIFE and they only cost £1.99

ah but you do get what you pay for and i'd rather utilise the experts who I pay my council tax partly to fund than spend a measly £1-99 on a second rate smoke alarm which may not work for any length of time. I haven't seen a decent looking smoke alarm for less than about £8 (Woolies etc) and certainly wouldn't risk my families life by going the cheap £1-99 option on this one!! Get the experts in! Great thread OP...a LOT of people aren't aware that this option exists.

I got a free carbon monoxide detector as I am with British Gas and have their annual cover to service gas fires etc. As i have the full policy that includes parts and labour etc, I asked the guy when he was servicing the fire if I could have one and he installed it there an then.

Not technically free as you have to have their cover, but if you're paying it anyway it's worth asking them! I think the engineers carry them around with them but only give them out to the people who ask!

Any goverment system that allows fireman to visit my home and fit a free alarm is OK by me...come on girls admit it..how mayny would actually pay for a few fireman to come and spend the afternoon dealing with their potentially hot spots ????:D
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)
