Where can I find free smoke alarms?

Hi. I wasn't sure if I should ask this here or elsewhere, so please move it if it's in the wrong place.
The smoke alarm in the living room has given up the ghost and I could probably do with another one for the hallway too. I'm sure there must be some way of getting free smoke alarms, but does anyone know where?

hiya
have you tried calling your local fire station to see if they can help?
When i moved from the north east to south yorkshire a couple of years ago, I registered with my new doctor and saw the health visitor (i had a son who was under the age of 5 at the time) and she arranged for the fire service to come out, supply and install smoke alarms throughout.
I dont know if this was just because i had a young child in the house or if they do it if the public ring them, it might be worth a try.
Good Luck

As said local firestation may give them out depending on your circumstances. We got two free in our house when we moved they came round 8 weeks ago in the fire engine. They said they dont mind fitting them as it filled the day up.0

last year i had the fire brigade come round and fit 2 new smoke alarms which they provided free and they also gave me 4 energy lightbulbs, i think if i remember rightly that near enough all fire brgades are doing this so definately worth giving them a ring...0

hi,
i live in south yorkshire and the fire people came round on friday to fit 2 free smoke alarms.they are really good cos they are a sealed unit so no more batteries needed for 10 years.they also have a hush button incase they go off when youre cooking.old one near kitchen used to drive me mad when i had oven on high or was grilling anything.
the firemen were telling me their aim is to install free alarms in all homes in south yorkshire.
we put the old ones in the garden sheds.you never know what could happen where theres a barbeque fuel and petrol and a petrol lawnmower so i thought it was a good idea.People bring great joy into our lives..some by arriving, others by leaving.im trying to be one of the former, so please bear with

Hi, I live in Cardiff, Wales. The welsh assembly paid for free smoke alarms last yr. All u had to do was ask your local fire station if they were able to fit free smoke detectors. They arrange an appt time and date and came to fit them where needed. They also chat about how u would get out in the event of a fire and made u think about that sort of thing. And they let our 3 kids have a look in the fire engine and turned the flashing lights on!
All free and v v lovely to have lots of burly firemen in the house !!!
Not sure my hubby was too pleased though lol
It is worth asking ur local station, they would prefer to fit one than turn up at ur house for a fire.
good luck!!0 -
Same here, got the fire dept to come out and install them free of charge a couple of months back as the old ones were a bit past it.
Not only do they fit the smoke alarms, but they do a fire safety check on the house and give advice.
Oh, and having three burly fireman in the house for half an hour was just a bonus!GOD BLESS DURAN DURAN
