Best laptop for around £400

Hi all!
Looking to purchase a laptop for around £400ish.
Not got a clue what I should be looking for so a little help is needed
Ideally I want min of 80gb HDD, 1gb memory and a 15" screen (pref wide screen). I don't have a clue what processors are meant to be quick so a little guidance would be appreciated.
Will be used for storage, playing DVDs and general word processing - would like it < £400 if poss.

If you're willing to pay a hundred more, Tesco have been selling Core 2 Duo E6300 ACER laptops (1gb mem, 80gb disk).
No idea what they are like, but if I know Acer - their support will be rubbish. May be better looking at Dell laptops!
Anyway, keep your eye on large superstores. They occasionally have great deals!Throwing acid is bad.... in some peoples eyes...0 -
dell are currently doing decent ones for under £400. I got an advent one from PC World with DVD burner, widescreen and everything for about £350...bought one for the missus in the end too0

I have my eye on a Dell machine for £424 (1gb mem/ 120gb HDD) but I'm hoping I can find a better deal as P&P bumps it up a bit.

Do yourself a favour woody, invest the extra to get a Core 2 Duo. For the small difference in cost, it's a huge difference in processing power - especially when it's needed (laptops!). It wont take long for a lower-end chip in a laptop to become slow and unusable once you start loading things on

it was on offer about 2 months ago so prob don't do it anymore....it was Intel Celeron M410 1.46GHz. 60GB HDD, 1024MB RAM, 15.4"widescreen. DVD+/-RW. is on windows XP but thats all i need for what I do. I'm quite sure it was about £340.

Shame you missed this offer from a few weeks ago, they were 328-380 including delivery and bigger disk/ram.. keep an eye on Dell site on Thursdays, as that is when the offers tend to start.
