Bill..HELP
Hi, my daughter moved out of her shared house in September and paid all her halves of bills. The elec&gas she left with the housemate who still lives there to pay. You've guessed...he didn't! After lots of phone calls, I paid the bills. Now it seems he didn't pay his half of the council tax. She can prove she's paid her part but the council say that if he doesn't pay his half, she's liable? Any thoughts? How can this be resolved?

If it was a joint tenancy then all of the tenants are legally responsible for paying the council tax charge, its not apportioned.
The council can take action against any of the occupiers to recover the monies due.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
That's what they said, slightly unfair but just wondered if there was some way round. They do know who's responsible and have sent him a new copy of the bill. We'll have to give it a week or so and then think again. Thanks though.0
