I was reading about the digital switch in the daily mail. I watched a lot of TV and do not want to subscribe to sky+, we have got sky downstairs with links to all the bedrooms. What I would like to know whether I could buy a freeview box for my tv bedroom? there are loads of programmes I am interested to watch in freeeview. I am also not sure what I need to do, is it just plug and play or do I need to upgrade my tv aerial? Also which one to get, I really need a basic one? Thanks

Freeview should be fine with most aerials, you could get a cheap tuner and try it out. All you need to do is plug your coax cable into the back of the tuner and plug the tuner into the TV with a SCART cable, dead easy.

Yep that'll work, providing you can get a good Freeview signal where you live (coverage is a bit patchy).

    Go to: http://www.freeview.co.uk
    To check coverage.

Providing you are in a good signal area, if you have an old style aerial, you might not get a perfect signal, or all the channels. But a new "designed for digital" aerial wouldn't be too expensive, companies such as Maplin sell these "wideband" aerials.

We are using out standard aerial that's been in our loft for 10 years and it works fine, we get all the channels on freeview.

    Hope that helps!

Do I understand, I could buy the cheapest free viewbox at Tesco and it should work? That's all I need, I will get it a tesco as I think, you can return with argos. My main tv aerial on the roof and I have got outdoor aerial installed in my bedroom. The TV itself is a portable. I am considering it because hubby is always hook on sky and there are programmes I could watch on freeview. thanks.

Forgot to ask, can you connect vhs and dvd if you have only got a scart connection? I am currently using one cheap double scart sockets for the dvd and vhs, will it be a problem as I will need one for the box? Thanks

Yes you can coonect dvd video and freeview through scarts.

If you have a freeview box with 2 scarts there will be one scart for the tv and one scart for the video. The video will record the freeview programme through its scart. When you try to play a video the freeview box will be passive and the video signal will pass straight through to the tv.

Make sure your freeview box has 2 scart sockets on it.

There is an old but ok freeview for £20 on Tesco.com and it can be delivered to your local store for free.
