  • Hi All
:T This string has been really helpful in helping me decide what to do about going to Egypt. Seems to make sense to take a small amount in local and the rest in sterling to change there.

Can someone give me some idea of how much things cost out there:confused: . Seems that we get about 11 e£ to the £, but how much is a meal, pint of milk, bottle of water, etc.

    Thanks:beer:

It has alot of good info re money, tipping, prices. Not sure how this relates to other prices in Egypt, but can't be far out

    Hope it helps

  • That was really useful, thanks.

Another question - is it really necessary to complete a VISA application form in advance? I tried the embassy web page but the link to the form was broken.

I would def change some before you go as we found that we needed some for 'tips' - they are widely EXPECTED - if someone carries your bag, shows you to your room etc. I would ask for small denominations so that you can do this. Also when you buy things we found that some shops 'didn't have any change....' I'm sure you could change pounds and dollars at the hotel, but I don't like arriving in a foreign country without the local money - just in case.
BTW - have a fab time - I absolutely loved Egypt and can't wait til I can go back!

For small notes keep an eye on ebay

I have just got 100EP ( Egyptian Pounds ) all in 1EP notes for £5 including postage :j

They come up sometimes, and I bagged a nice little lot as it would have cost me bout £10 for them at face value if I could have got them at an agents ( which I doubt )

We've stayed at Taba the last two years. You can get a visa at the egyptian airport but you dont need one unless you are going on trips out of sinai. As it happened we decided to go to Jordan on a trip last year but the visa wasnt a problem, we just paid at the customs office before we got on the boat.
    ;) debt free...yippee
