Direct Debit - Is a late payment possible?

Hi

I've got a Barclayecard which i took for its long term balance transfer a few monts back, up untill now, Ive paid it manualy pretty much as soon as I receive the statment. I've recently set up a direct debit to make sure I don't forget etc, however the date it has been set as is down as the 2nd of each month, my payment date is due on the 3rd, is it possible that if this falls on a weekend or whatever,t he payment might be late? or does the fact its a direct debit mean I won't get a late payment? or am I going to need to call them to amend the payment date?

Regards
Paul

As long as your statement says that payment will be collected by Direct Debit, and there are sufficient funds in your account the day before it's due, then you won't get a late payment.

EDIT: I assume the Direct Debit was set up by your card company? Sorry to ask but sometimes people refer to Direct Debits when they actually mean Standing Orders, which are a completely different kettle of fish.
  • Hi,

Thanks for your responce, yes its definatly a direct debit, not a standing order :)

I set it up myself via the online services section of the barclycard website, but i didnt seem to have a choice of date for it to be paid on, nor can I see any obvious way that I can change the payment date.

As long as there's no chance of a late payment subject to sufficent fund being avilable, I'm ok with it, the account the DD come from is purely a bills account, and theres always at least a months buffer in there (eg if my monthly bills were £200, i pay in £200 a month and leave £200 there anyway, so on payday the account is £400 credit)

My M&S card does this - due date is 20th and takes on 19th by default, never had any problems :)
