Its 14 working days (3 weeks) before they will investigate why your claim has not paid out yet. Sometimes they are done within 10 work days sometimes not...
But if you are eligible for JSA they will eventually back pay all that they owe you.

Be aware the term JSA Advisor is misleading they are not there to advise you their only job is to get you off of benefits and the priority way to do that for them is via sanctions and not by helping you get a job as they would have you believe in fact Jobcentre's are given a monthly quota who they must get off of benefits by applying sanctions regardless of whether anyone matches the criteria for sanctions or not!

The term is personal advisor actually and your statement is not only incorrect it's offensive, so until you can state facts plase do not pass comments on something you know nothing about

Really, that's what Jobcentre want people to believe, what I posted is something that Jobcentre's don't want made common knowledge!

So, how did you acquire this information? You can back up what you claim can't you?

    I applied for JSA.

Had first meeting with advisor, set targets etc. Then Tuesday last week was my first 'sign-on' date.

I've read (I think on here), money should go into account 3 days after signing date. Someone else has told me, it goes in every Monday (but I think his signing day may have been Wednesday).

I was told, originally, it would take 2-6 weeks for some office in Newcastle to approve my claim.

So I'm confused as to whether I should have money or not?

Am I supposed to receive some form of confirmation letter to say my claim has been approved? As what's the point of me going in for a second appointment to 'sign-on', if I get no money for it. Or do they back date it when it's approved?

    It is confusing -

You should have had an inital appointment at the jobcentre to start the claim once you had applied to JSA ( by phone or on line ).

Your signing day is dictated by the last 2 numbers and letter of your NI number. So possibly you may be seen on a Monday and the have to also attend the jobcentre the following day because that is youe signing day and you have to get into the 2 weeks cycle even though your claim still han't been built yet.

At the initial appointment you confirm all the information you declared when applying for JSA and this paperwork goes to the Benefit Delivery Centre ( BDC). It is these people who determine whether you are eligible for JSA and release the money to you.

When 'signing you on' all that JCP staff are doing is sending a message to BDC saying that you have attended and to release the money.

It usually takes about 10 working days for the BDC to get the JSA claim up and running - can take less time ( especially if a Rapid Reclaim ), can take more if queries on claim.

If the timing of events is unlucky then you could see a JCP member of staff a week after your initial appointment, but they can't sign you on because the claim has not been built yet and so you don't get any money until 2 weeks later when you next sign on and then not into your a/c until another 3 working days later.

    All the best

Sorry but some of what he says has credence,

Up until recently there was a JCP target that each adviser would sanction 1% of their caseload ( presumably over a 2 week period )

With unfavourable media attention that was amended to an 'expectation' rather than a target.

How this expectation is managed within JCP depends on the individual district managers, their centre managers and ultimately individual front-line staff

    Good luck

    Boom thanks for the help.

Someone I know has had a letter since I asked the question, telling them their claim had been approved and how much they would get. They had to claim during unemployment last year.

I haven't claimed before, and haven't had the letter. So assuming mine is taking a little longer due to it being my first time.
