Sugar Soap instructions

Hi, I just got some sugar soap to clean some bare wood prior to painting, but the instructions on the box say "do not use on bare wood due to discolouration" however if I am repainting would this make any difference as any discolouration would be covered by the new gloss paint, or would it? Does anyone know the answer to this please.

If your painting the wood as you say it won't make any difference !

I use white spirit to clean wood myself.

Thanks for that, now you have ruined my weekend, I was going to put my feet up but I will have to get the sugar soap out again!!
