They weren't coming anywhere near the top of the switching sites for me even before the rise so God knows where they will be now.0

Yes - that is strange.
I checked when I posted that there wasn't another thread on this subject from MSE and their Article on this increase is dated today 10 December.
Yet the link inviting comment on the article appears to show that the thread was opened on 07 December. It seems strange that the first comment was not until 11:39 today.
Nice facility to be able to backdate posting dates;)0 -

This news was highly expected to be announced today. It was in speculated in detail in some of the tabloids Friday or Saturday.
I wouldn't be surprised if it hadn't been sent round to the various press and just embargoed until today.0 -
I guess this will be another case where their reported average increase will in reality be the minimum with everyone getting an increase the same or higher. I do not look forward to my letter informing me of the rise.0

"Price increase is shown inclusive of VAT, based on our standard product, E.ON Energy Plan, averaged across all regions, at a national average annual consumption of 16,500 kWh for gas and 3,300 kWh for electricity on an unrestricted meter. Actual increases will vary by payment method, consumption, region and meter configuration;"
