Moving - Just want best/cheapest options. Confused and options.
We are moving into a new house tomorrow.
I just want to ring one/two companies up and give them the meter readings and be done.
I am getting really bogged down and confused if having one supplier or two is better and along with that getting tied in. I just cant seem to make head way.
Not sure if it matters, but I am moving into the Berkshire area.
I am happy to be lcoked in for X time, if thats single or duel supplier. I am keen to get a good deal and put it to bed.
Cheers......Q

Well firstly, good luck with the move
In general having both fuels from the same company is normally cheaper.
The only way to find the cheapest is to enter your yearly consumption on a comparison web site.
Be aware that if your new property is completely different you have to account for a rise or fall in usage.0 -
When you move in you will be deemed to be in a contract with the existing supplier to the house but you can switch immediately although the switch takes a few weeks to kick in.0

Then you can start looking for a better/cheaper supplier if one exists.0 -
Register with the existing supplier(s) as above. Then use a comp site with your estimated annual kWh figures to find the cheapest tariff. 2 minutes work. Then switch via a cashback site, and all should then be done by around mid-January.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

If you have both gas/electric with one supplier, you generally get a "duel fuel discount" so it works out cheaper.
I'd go on a comparison sight first and see what companies are cheapest in your area based on how much you expect to spend over the year. Then call the companies up directly and see if you can get any extras to sweeten the deal.0 -

Yes, as a few of you mention, you are right.
I am in the process of doing so and already with a threat of moving, the current (duel) supplier is doing a good job of trying to keep me on board.

Don't assume dual fuel is always cheapest
Logically, dual fuel (gas and electricity from the same supplier) should be cheaper and it often is, yet not always.
During your comparison, also compare the cost of the cheapest dual fuel supplier with separate cheap gas and cheap electricity suppliers.0 -
... Then call the companies up directly and see if you can get any extras to sweeten the deal.
That's the second time I've seen you post that.
What extras have you ever managed to obtain from any energy supplier?
As O'Leary said recently about a RyanAir - the price is the price. It's there to be seen and up to the customer to accept it or not.0 -
Golden hellos are not unknown. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Not every assuming any one option is cheapest.
Thanks for the heads up though.
