Buying a used car

I've seen a car I'd like to buy from a small, independent dealer. I'm a bit nervous about buying from them purely because I've only bought from official dealerships before. I've paid a small deposit with a personal cheque and the dealer wants the balance either by bankers draft cheque or online bank transfer. Is this normal? Is this safe?

normal no, safe yes...
its not normal in respect that small dealers love cash, card machine is another high on the list option with bank transfer.. but bankers draft?? lots of forgeries have been produced
but i wouldnt worry, sounds ok0 -
Small deposit was £100.
Thanks for the replies. They do seem to be an established dealer. Been there for a long time. I just wanted to be sure about the payment methods. I would have preferred to pay with my card. I'm guessing the card machine facility is expensive for a small business.
So is there any advantage to paying by draft or online transfer?0 -

For the dealer its better YOU pay the bankers draft fee or transfer fee.... the risk though is to the dealer with a fake bankers draft.0
