Changing to a credit meter
Hi all
I have recently moved into a property with prepayment meters for gas and electric.
The electric is with eon and the gas is with british gas.
I rang BG about moving to a credit meter and they said there was a technical problem with my account and they couldn't do anything until it is sorted, so I have to wait until after Christmas before I can even find out whether they will change the meter.
If I attempted to change supplier, how long would that take? Is there any chance of getting on a credit meter sooner do you think?
Also I am unsure whether I will pass their credit check as I have been "stoozing". I currently have about £3000 borrowed at 0% and stashed away in savings accounts.

As long as you are paying the monthly minimum on your CC on time, it should not impact on a credit search-what the supplier is looking for is evidence or borrowing and timely repayment. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Hi tom717,
Just wanted to pop on to give you a bit of info about getting the prepayment meter removed for the electricity with us.
I can't comment on the gas situation though, sorry
If you would like a credit meter, then if you just give us a ring we can sort it out, we may ask to do a credit check first.
Once the appointment is in place you can have a look at the other tariffs and ways to pay.
Hope this helps.

What's the issue with your British Gas account that they say will take over a month to resolve?
If you haven't already done so, I suggest you get an official complaint logged with them today. That will start the clock rolling, and after 8 weeks (if no satisfactory response) you can
ask the ombudsman to help
If you delay it and it still isn't resolved, you will have to make a formal compliant and still wait 8 weeks - that would then be over 3 months away!
Depending on the exact issue with the account, I would suggest you think carefully about attempting to switch supplier before it is resolved, as a switch of supplier may hinder a prompt resolution.
A switch of supplier typically takes about 4-6 weeks from date of application0
