What type of card is it? Does it have Visa debit on it? I was pretty sure Santander basic account only had an ATM card.0

If you are looking for an account that has an overdraft facility and a Visa debit card, then our Everyday Current Account may be a better option for you0 -
no visa debt but their is a Cirrus on the back0

Cirrus and Visa don't marry.
Cirrus is a Mastercard variation normally used (AFAIK) for cash cards in UK.
My Nationwide cash card used to be Cirrus in the past.0 -
the basic account has a cash card
did you get declined for a full account?
there is a branch-only account called an instant plus which is a basic account with a debit card. you can apply for those as long as your not bankrupt.0 -
