Twin Screen DVD Player & DVD Writer !?!?

Hi.
We are driving to France in the summer and want to by an in car twin screen DVD player for my three boys. I also want to buy a DVD writer for my Dell (IDE?), so I can, hopefully, back up a load of DVDs in 'DIVX' and have these bouncing about in the back of the car, rather than scratching up the originals.
Having trawled the internet, I am still none the wiser. My budget is only £170, so I would appreciate any advice.
I'm not looking for someone to do my shopping for me (would be nice tho), but even if you could simply tell me what brands to avoid, what 'in/outs' are a necessity, etc (for the DVD writer too) - that would be a tremendous help.

Whatever happened to a book and I-Spy?
Any of the DVD+-RW drives should be ok, the bare ones are cheaper, but you might need to buy Nero to make full use of it.
