Netgear Router

I hve recently had to re install windows due to a problem with the main computer.

I have a wirless system running using a Netgear Router.

Now all is running ok, much better than before but I have found a problem, I think.

The Router is fine and the computer runs as new.

I need to add my laptop to the system but I have lost all the orginal programs on the PC, which also included the security code to get access to the wirefree network, so I cannot add my laptop.

If I reinstall the discs that came with the router, will this give me access to the settings? but I do not want to mess up the system on the main computer.

Problems, problems.

Thanks

Martin
Been there, done that, now I want to do it cheaper!!

you just need to access the Admin panel of the router, the instructions for doing this will be in the manual , you will find that on one of the CD's

the wireless key will be displayed in the admin panel

  • If you mean you can't access the router the default password is user name admin and password is password. If you have change from the defaults then you could be stuck.
Nothing to see here, move along.

If you problem is with the wireless encryption key then either plug your laptop into the router with a cable (you should disable the laptop wireless connection while you do this). You can then set-up a new encryption key on the router. Disconnect your laptop from the router and re-enable the wireless connection. You can now connect using the new encryption key.
N.B. If you already have a PC connected to the router with a wire you can use this to re-set the wireless encryption key. Enter the new encryption key on your wireless laptop.

To reset the router to factory settings there is a little hole at the back which a pen can fit into press this for about 30 seconds ( ish ) and it will reset .

attach ethernet cable between Pc/laptop and router
    start, run, cmd

    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

    launch IE

don't use the reset button on the back unless admin and password don't work, as it will lose all your router settings.
