Roof flashing quote

I've had 6-7m of lead flashing put back in place on the top of my roof. A new gap was ground out and old lead re-used. I've also had 2m of new lead put in, extending the area covered by lead, also by grinding out a gap. No scaffalding was required.
The work took one man 6 hours. I think the new bit of lead and materials must have cost about £50? And I think the fact that I paid £350 was too much for 6 hours work. Any thoughts ?

take 20% vat and £50 materials and your left with £241 and if this person was employee rather than one man company then his daily wages have to be paid as well
didnt you get a quote before work was started0 -
The other thing to consider is that he got up on your roof and did it....it it was a simple thing of paying £50 for the materials you could have done the job yourself....or does the thought of being totally exposed on the top of your roof for 6 hours not appeal to you.....thought not!frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

& it's a days work not 6 hrs, what about going to get the lead or not having anything else he could do for the rest of the day due to the time leftI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Thanks for the quick responses everyone.
I don't feel too hard done by now. My gripe was with the quote which went from £250 before having had a good look from a ladder, to £500 on the day having got on the roof. Then being informed of a charge if I did not except the new quote. In future I will ensure I get a written quote.
Anyone got a figure on what the above work should of cost ?0 -
i don't know the size of the lead (length yes but not the width) but for a days work i would say around £200 plus materials, i would have told him to stuff the charge on a quote if he had put it up on the day, he gave you a quote not an estimate didn't he ? quotes are a fixed price an estimate isn'tI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Look what happened to Rod Hull when he got on the roof...Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Cheers for the numbers Southcoastrgi - Thats inline with what I was thinking. I didn't realise that quotes are a fixed price. I think he said he "will do it for" but I can't remember. Will definately do things differently in future. Thanks again.
I see the point with Rod Hull C_Mababejive but I wouldn't want a relative of mine to have the same problems that I've had. Plenty of people have jobs where they are responsible for other peoples lives or put their own lives on the line, its not a unique trade in that regard and so does not excuse such practice.0 -

Yep bless him..I use to work on his place in East Sussex and he was a decent chap but he never brought Emu out to see us.Just goes to show its always a risk climbing your own roof to mend the TV arial or carry out any work for that matter....
I wonder if he took Emu up the roof ,arial in one hand Emu in the other is a recipe for disaster and was bound to end in tears..
I'm paying about £80-00 +vat for a 6mtr roll of code 5 lead, plus a days work isn't that far out IMO..Not cheap though.0 -
Thanks for the info Leveller. Just to clarify, which price did you mean was about right ?
Lead price is in line with what I though. £35 for a couple of meters.0 -

6mtr roll of code 5 lead is currently about £80-00 +vat , Labour in my opinion 1 days work so Total £280-00 +vat.
I think £350-00 is a bit high but he didn't rip you off.0
