Replacement gutters

My gutter is leaking into next doors house. We've had it cleaned, but he said it was rotten and needed replacing and so I need to get it sorted ASAP as next door are getting annoyed, understandably. It's a mid terrace, wooden gutters either side. 4m long.
I called 2 firms who came out Friday - first said that plastic would be best, £240 (didn't go up a ladder to look). Second, £320, again plastic, although he said he might be able to 'flash' it for £60.
I didn't really trust either of them to be honest, just a gut feeling .... can anyone advise on what sort of price I should be paying? Or any recommendations in the Salford/Bolton area would be good. It's not possible for us to DIY.

Sorry but you are wrong. A lot of Victorian and Edwardian houses had wooden gutters. Typically 4" x 3" with a deep rebate down the centre. There aren't too many left but they are definitely still around.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -

I stand corrected i didn't know this, are you sure they aren't cast iron though ? or if they are indeed wood then i'm guessing they are lined with lead ?I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

They are definitely timber. The ones I have removed weren't lined with lead. They definitely aren't cast iron.
Just google 'timber gutters images'Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Used to fit loads of Wooden gutters in my days as a apprentice, and deffo weren't lead lined ,no choice then either wood or cast-iron. Wood gutters are joined using putty and paint with a lead strip 100mm wide with copper nails. Wooden gutters as still available to buy.
Beware as 99% of builders/ roofers have no idea how to fit them correctly.
I recall in the 80's there was a goverment training called the Skills Center where you could learn plumbing on a 6mth course.
We had one new qualified plumber, who repaired and joined wooden gutter with sand & cement LOL0 -

Yes definitely wooden gutters, maybe they're more common in the North? Almost all the Victorian houses in my town seem to have them, except when they've replaced with plastic.
Bump, to ask if anyone else has any idea of price or recommendations.0 -
We had our front and rear wooden gutters (troughings - or as my mother in law would called them "troughtings!) replaced a few weeks back - had them replaced with the plastic version and we paid £320 in Burnley, Lancashire.0
