Hi
What is the smallest (i.e shortest) freezer that money can buy?
Background:
I want to put 2 or 3 very very VERY small freezers on top of my kitchen cupboard, in order to make the absolute best use of space.
The height available is just 18cm, but it can be up to 34cm deep and pretty much as wide as you like.
It needs to be a proper freezer that freezes down to at least -18 degrees C.
I have spent hours on google but I still cant find a freezer that is anything like short enough to fit. !!!!!!? Has nobody in the entire planet built such a thing? There must be thousands if not milllions of students who would love to be able to store icecubes or icecream in their bedrooms.
Any suggestion?
J

Allowing for the necessary thickness of the freezer, that leaves about 4 inches for actual storage. You want a freezer to freeze things under 4 inches tall and of unlimited width? Are you considering freezing a snake, because I can't think of any other possible use for it?0

Students do have them called mini freezer, just not 18 cm deep. Only way your going to get one like that is, have one built.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0

Surely with modern materials the thickness of a freezer wall can be reduced to something sensible like 2 or 3cm (?)
e.g. If you used the technology of vacuum flasks - possibly enhanced by using multiple reflective layers... and a decent vacuum, the heat loss would be minimal.
If so that would leave about 12-14cm vertical space, 28-30cm depth, (and effectively unlimited width) for the interior... Easily be enough height for some small-ish loaves of bread!0 -

You could coil a snake into a giant lollypop shape, single decker. Freezer-burn'd prolly damage it though!
The smallest I've seen are the compact ones, and even so, they're not so small. Think the size of a small/short fridge-freezer.
Medical grade might be an alternative, thinking low usage/energy small portable freezers, but those'll be dear, very dear.0 -

I'm sure it's possible but possible doesn't equate to desirable. It's possible to make a car with a 7cm steering wheel or a garage the size of a mouse but these things don't exist on account of nobody wanting them. I don't know of anybody who has such a dearth of space that they can't accommodate a fridge taller than 7 inches. As a student I lived in the world's smallest room yet it was host to a number of objects with heights of 7 inches or more. Also, students should not be frittering their money away on diminutive white goods, they should be spending it on beer.0 -
This shows what is technically possible: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/485209430/Joyikey_healthcare_mini_freezer_for_medical.html
The walls are only 2cm thick. Unfortunately it's more of a fridge that an freezer as it only goes down to 2 degrees C, also minimum order appears to be 50 whereas I only need a few of 'em.
And here is another:

Again more fridge than freezer I fear...0 -
