What is the best type of savings account?

I am saving money for University tuition fee's, and am curious as to which kind of accounts will give me the best interest rates, on top of my savings.

I will be depositing £1000, and then will be adding (via DD) £100 per month for approximately 18 months, giving me a total of £2800 put in to the account.

I'm not asking people to do the research for me on what exact bank account to go for. Simply that there are many types of accounts and I'm unsure which is best for my situation.

You could check out the First Direct Regular Saver for your £100/mth - - nothing that will presently come near to the interest you can get from that.

For your initial £1K

1. open a current account and an instant savings account at some bank other than Halifax. Put your £1K in there.
2. open a Halifax Reward account, cycle that £1K between the above account(s) and the Halifax for £5 a month. £60/year interest from £1K - pretty much unbeatable! For as long as Halifax do pay the fivers, of course................
