Hi, I cannot connect using broadband so returned to dial up but want to try broadband again.
I have a Thomson speedtouch 330 USB ADSL modem (not a router as previously thought) with an ADSL filter supplied by Virgin.
My computer is approx 6 years old.
I do live in a rural area but as I mentioned my neighbour has connected without problems.
We dont have any extensions, sky, burglar alarms or anything else connected to the phone lines.
I plugged the modem directly into the test socket in the main BT box & still couldnt connect.
Sorry for the confusion but I am totally baffled by computers when things go wrong.0 -

Are you still paying for a BB service, is it still enabled on your line? What happens when you try to connect, any lights on the usb adsl modem?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Was there an installation disk containing the Thomson ST330 drivers and have you installed these?0

1)If your modem 'trains' ok (ie normally the flashing light turns continuously on) then it's your settings.
2)try inserting microfilters into both sockets. I done this with mine and it worked ok afterwards.matched betting: £879.63

Yeah, you need to make sure your line is up. BT or various websites can tell you that (along with the connect light on the Voyager). But you gotta check the quality of your phoneline. I lived right next door to someone who couldn't (originally) get broadband because of the quality of copper running from the house.
It's the job of your ISP / BT to resolve any connect issues you have. They should be your first point of call.Throwing acid is bad.... in some peoples eyes...0 -
we are currently on dial up & cancelled the bb.
Our ADSL is enabled.
What is a micro filter?
We installed the disc that came with the modem correctly.
I cant remember which lights were on the modem but virgin kept asking & saying that was OK
Virgin did log a fault through BT who said the line was OK, however it obviously isnt.
That is where we left it, with BT & Virgin both denying responsibility, but as we need daily access to the internet we called it quits & reverted back to dial up but would now like to try again but dont want to experience the hassle & inconvenience again.
Thanks to all who have tried to help.:p0 -
The only thing you can do is to try it again, but you may have the same issues, and it is up to the ISP/BT to sort out the issue, so don't give up next time, nag them till it works.
A micro filter is the thing you plug into the phone socket before your modem/router.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
