Year Round Pots
I have some gorgeous trough style pots that are quite deep and I am hoping to plant them up with bulbs to provide year round (or at least spring to autumn) colour and interest and I am wondering what are the best thinks to plant?
A few years ago I saw a layering scheme in a garden centre and should have made a note of the contents.

Interesting question - I'd be interested in finding some answers to this one too.
At the moment my tubs are full of 5/6 types of heathers which I quite like, though they're a bit flat and samey, I often see some very nice schemes at hotels and stately home and things, but never remember what they were
Looking at the internet I found some of these as suggestions, but they're not hugely inspiring.
Hopefully someone else has some more exciting suggestions

I had a go at one of these at the weekend, using bulbs reduced at Home Bargains (29p from 99p) and some I already had. I put lilies and alliums deepest, then tulips, then early daffs. I plan to put some nasturtium seeds in in spring to cover up dying foliage and that should provide colour from early March to autumn.0

Grumpybear thank you for those links I will go and have a look....
Thank you Reen for your suggestions, have you tried this approach before?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
No Rummer, I haven't tried it before. I had the daffs and lilies in separate plastic tubs which were getting scruffy, and I put them out when they flowered. I thought it would look nicer (and be easier on my back) to combine them in a big wooden trough, along with some tulips and big purple alliums to extend the flowering period. Hope it works!0
