Television problem. Have sound but pictureless.

Television Toshiba, model Regza about 5 years old.

For about 9 months or so when our TV has been switched on we have received sound with a black screen. The picture has then come through several minutes later.

Of late it has taken longer for the picture to emerge and this evening nothing has appeared and it looks like the machine has given up the ghost bar the sound. We have checked the leads for firm connection and are now stumped as to what to do next. :mad:

Suggestions please. Thanks.

I wonder if the whole screen has gone, or is it just the backlight or inverter for the backlight, both of which might be relatively cheap and easy to replace. Shine a torch in while it's switched on and you might see a very dark picture...
