Purchase protection insurance claim

Hello first post,

I recently purchased the new iphone 5 with my capital one credit card which includes free purchase protection insurance for damage, so on the opening release of the iphone on the 21st of september i bought the phone on my credit card, 5 days after having the phone it developed a fault which apple replaced with a new phone and instead of doing a refund then re-purchase they just loaded a £529 credit on to a gift card and then proceeded to deduct that amount for my replacement phone..

Ok so 2 months down the line i've gone and cracked my phone screen from falling out of my pocket, now am i still covered under capital one's insurance cover or not? i still have the original purchase receipt but the imei of the phone is now different as a replacement was made.. Where do i stand?

Thanks!

Yes indeed, as far as i'm aware it doesn't mention this in the policy, or in exclusions either....

there not open till Monday unfortunately, i just don't want to proceed with a claim and it gets rejected, apple will replace the phone for £180 which isn't toooo bad.

Why are you posting this in the middle of someone elses thread.

  • But to answer the question - yes but the cheque would be in joint names - if you don't have a joint account and know where he is you will be wasting your time.

Did you keep the receipt from Apple to confirm that it was switched under warranty with the two phones serial numbers? If you did then it probably wont be an issue. Apple may be able to reprint it if you lost it.

The other thing to check on the insurance is the fact these are typically secondary policies and so only provide cover if no other cover is available and so you'd need to check that this isnt the case and if it is then check that your Home policy wouldnt also provide cover

Thankyou for the useful info, yes i kept all receipts including the exchange of phones, i have managed to call the card company today and explained the situation and they think it should still be ok, will wait and see what happens.

You'd need to check the T&Cs of both policies to see.... normally a home policy will cover all family members living in the household but there can be exceptions.

Just an update, capital one paid out for the phone!! very easy and was hassle free to my surprise!!

It's Genworth who deal with the insurance claim not capital one, but it all went smoothly so i'm off to get a new phone!!
