Hmmmm. They've booked me a second appointment to remove the fuse from this second meter so that I don't get charged a standing charge for it anymore (that will be an interesting conversation), and told me to ask my landlady to get the storage heater working (so will that).

But, they are going to bill me on a single rate once they've installed the new meter, which should work out cheaper for me I hope.

Not so sure about having paid the right amount as I thought it was their records that counted, not the meter (had this argument with them when I moved in and my first statement showed me as oweing them money)

I'm really sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick on this, but how are we going to remove a fuse from a meter that isn't there?

Also if you have been paying for the energy that you have been using through a prepayment meter then you should have been billed correctly (assuming all the settings are correct) so paid the right amount.

The RHT standing charge may have shown on a statement but you won't have been paying for this.

However, I can't be sure as I can't see your account. It does sound like your doing the right thing in speaking to us and it sounds like it's getting sorted.

No you haven't. That was exactly the question I asked!

    I see,

I think it's probably best to keep the appointment so the engineer can have a look at the set up that you've got with the meter.

    When is it booked for?

If you need any help from me just ask.

    Helena :)

Hmmm, that appointment to remove the fuse on the removed off peak meter is clearly a waste of time.

What i think you need to do is call Eon again and ask them to rebook an appointment to "obtain meter technical details" on the off peak meter if they still have it listed as on site and "energised"

if the off peak meter is not listed on site anymore or considered "de-energised" then any appointment is not necessary.

The overcharging is in relation to the standing charge on the off peak meter which has never been at the property since you moved in. Therefore charging you a standing charge for a meter that isnt at your flat is clearly not fair.

A quick update - when the meter guy turned up, he read the label on the meter, and explained that the RHT meter had definately been removed along with the old meter - before I ever moved in. He also told me that he regularly did calls just to check what meter was installed, and that whoever had told me way back when that this was impossible, had been wrong.

After someone at E.on assuring me they'd "sort it" but obviously failing to do so, I finally rang the complaints department, who put me through to the historic meters department, whom have taken the readings from back in June 2009 and will rebill me. I've also discovered that I definitely DO have a standing charge on the RHT meter (they'd told me earlier in this saga that I didn't, and wasn't being overcharged), and calculate that I've paid about £302 more than I should have done over the almost four years, just in the standing charge. I have no idea what I would have paid if I'd been able to switch tariff or supplier during this period - E.on are one of the very few suppliers who support RHT meters.

I have done some highlighting above as I think this needs to be addressed.

Why have EON advised you to get the storage heater repaired and running, when they are going to switch you to a single rate tariff?

This is a very bad idea. If you are going to use storage heaters, you need to be on a dual rate tariff.

Only move to a single rate if you are not going to use the storage heaters.

I've no idea, but I never did ask for it to be fixed (moving out before the next winter!) and they never did put me on a single rate.

Although I think there's a flaw in your logic. They only told me to get it fixed. They didn't ask me to USE it.

One assumes that the point of fixing something, is to use it. Why bother otherwise.

Either way, EON should not be advising you to repair/use a storage heater, and putting you on a single rate tariff.
