Got an ipad on contract from vodafone and have only had it for 4 months and it has broke, it does not boot up anymore.
What are my rights? can I ask vodafone for a replacement or do I have to have it picked up by them for repair?

Have you tried Pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds?
That's the official apple advice from
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
It might be worth taking it to an apple store - these things do happen with apple devices but there's usually ways to fix them0 -

If its a item in warranty the best route for resolving issues with Apple products is to take it to Apple.
Apple will likely do a straight swap out for you if it is dead.0 -

i thought that because I got it from vodafone I could only deal with them? Well at least thats what vodafone said.0 -
Your contract is with Vodafone so you only have legal rights against Vodafone. However, Apple stores do tend to fix things regardless of where you bought the product - Vodafone would only end up claiming back from Apple so it makes sense for them to do this.
Vodafone are entitled to repair they do not have to replace. If this will be a hoo-ha it is worth going down to an Apple store (make an appointment with one of the "geniuses" if you can) and asking them to take a look. They can often fix there and then and I've heard they even replace.0 -
Go on the Apple Discussion site or the apple solution site - there are lots of remedies there for iphones that are playing up. It's usually quite a simple solution. Alternatively book an appt with an Apple Genius at an Apple store - they will have it fixed very quickly and will replace if not. Doesn't matter where you bought it - if it's broken try the website first and then take it into to an apple shop:dance:                 :dance:I am finally understanding what money can do for me!0

You can't ONLY deal with them, they have the obligation to resolve it, but you also have the secondary support of the manufacturers warranty to support your issue.
You also seem keen to avoid repair times and a period of time without the device - by going to Apple you will encounter a specialist who will try to fix it, but if that fails they will give you an immediate swap out.0 -
Apple are very relaxed about issues in the first year and don't seem to care where the device was bought. I bought an iPod touch off eBay, it had an issue with the dock connector, so I took it to my local Apple store. Turned out the device had been purchased in the US (I had no idea!) but the store had no problem replacing it.0

Apple are excellent, had issues with my iPod, bought from Argos.
Tool it to the nearest Apple shop and they replaced after not being able to fix the issue totally.
They know their stuff and I've always found the staff helpful and enthusiastic (maybe a bit too much sometimes!)0 -
Hi UNI7ED,
Thanks for making me aware of this.
In this instance we'd usually attempt a repair first of all. Of course, in the event that a repair isn't possible and the problem is covered by the warranty a replacement would be issued.
Should you require any further assistance could you email me with the relevant details via the link in our profile here?
All you need to do is copy and paste the link into your web browser and it will take you to the Contact us form on our website.
To ensure that it reaches us could you also quote the code WRT135 - MSE in the subject line and once our automated reply arrives update the thread with your email reference number and I'll get back to you as soon as possible?
Kind regards,
Lee
