Cheers Ant555, I converted the account to Outlook last night and got an outlook alias that is working fine. The old hotmail emails are still not coming through though.

Yes I can send to other addresses but not to the affected one. Ie I logged into hotmail and sent an email to myself but nothing, yet to someone else it gets through. So it's definitly a receiving issue related to this account. I wonder if it's because it's got a different ending that hotmail.co.uk/com - it's got an personal business ending???

Hi Lisa76 - Just so I am not losing sight of the original problem and going off at a tangent...

Does the problematic address you are trying to send test messages to end in hotmail.co.uk/.com or is it your own email address domain from somewhere else?
And, are you using the facility from within hotmail to send/receive email to/from this non-hotmail account?

    Thanks

    Hi Ant555,
It appears that the problem likes with the domain name and MX servers or something like that. We don't have a hotmail ending to the email we have an old business name, so I contacted 123-reg who we paid for the name but they say we need to contact !!!!!!!!!!.com.
What I'm thinking now is that we had a free website with microsoft office live, which was stopped last year, so something's gone wrong there. I have tried finding a contact for !!!!!!!!!! but seem to be going around in circles. I can't login to the admin part of office live as we are not a current user.
This is all getting a little frustrating to say the least!

Oh dear, those exclamation marks are hiding the words 'office' 'live' - didn't know I wasn't allowed to say them!

If you are the registered owner of the domain name through 123-reg then thats a really good start, especially if its you that pays them.

If 123-reg are the registrars for the domain then I don't understand why they don't have control over the MX records they mention. As far as I was aware they/you have complete control over these settings.

It may not be something you wish to do but my immediate thought is that all email for <yourdomain>.co.uk could stay with 123-reg (they would charge between £12 and £75 per year depending on your plan) and you just 'collect' the email through hotmail using the following menus - #more mail settings#your email accounts#add a send and receive account

I think office live went offline 12 months ago so it might be that Microsoft have started mopping up or changing things after a period of grace - I think its been replaced by Office365.

Do you have a business web site related to your domain name or do you just use it for email? If there is a web site then is it 123-reg that hosts it and can you tag email onto that plan.

Sorry this thread is growing arms and legs but initially it seemed like a straightforward hotmail webmail account problem.

We had our website through office live, but as the business wound up last summer we never did anything when the free website ended - we just assumed that would be the end of our website and that's that.

We bought the domain name (and presumably the info@....... email address) through 123-reg. This automatically got renewed in January this year so I guess we've got it for another 2 years. I didn't realise that this wasn't a hotmail address and that somehow the emails were going to hotmail.

I don't want to pay 123-reg any more money to be honest as we'll start using the outlook.com address from now on, but my husband has some job applications that he used his old email address for and so we would like it sorted for now.

I will try getting back in touch with 123-reg and ask why they can't change the MX records, watch this space........

    Thanks for your help Ant555!
