OS Daily 8th December Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 8th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Early start to the day as DH and I are going to next town to collect part of DS2's xmas prezzie that I have ordered. Went out for dinner last night with friends, so feeling a bit "delicate" this morning! But had a lovely meal and a good time, so I'm sure in a while I'll feel fine. Don't think it helped that the heating came on as I woke up and the bedroom was really hot and it always gives me a stuffy nose and head, DH was too hot too.
Did manage yesterday to get shopping done, and the washing that was dry was ironed and put away - the dirty washing basket was empty - for about a couple of hours! Will endeavour to get some more done today.
Haven't got a clue what's for dinner tonight, will organise that later.
Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

Thank you for all the calendar advice. I pondered for hours (mr tru had a really long lie-in so I had to wait til nearly lunchtime to go shopping) and decided that while I'll be forgiven for mixing up the dates – after all, it was a genuine mistake – using it as an excuse to have two advent calendars is just plain evil. So I'm going to carry on with the one I've got. Obviously, compensation was required so I bought two large bags of chocolate buttons. One down, one to go :rotfl:

We took an old gas fire out a while ago, it was living flame style, literally just the fire, no surround. When the plumber came to disconnect the gas, he said if we weren't taking it out he'd have to condemn it. The lounge doesn't really have room for a fireplace – we shoved a piece of board over the hole and put the sofa in front of it. We were going to fix it properly in january then get the room plastered. But............... I really want an open fire. It's going to make the room feel really crowded but I don't care. Plus I want a mantlepiece to decorate next Christmas

I couldn't bring myself to unravel my saggy old jumper – it's so warm and comfy. But I've talked myself into deconstructing a cardigan. I have two, they're long and chunky and so warm that I can use them in place of a coat. They're exactly the same, bought together and have had the same amount of wear. The green one still looks almost new but the black one is out of shape, plus it seems to grow each time it's washed
I'll be crocheting with that today. Bulletproof0 -
Morning everyone,
Hugs to LW and Molly.
Hope your arm is getting better Hilstep.
Tru what's this about advent calendar problems?
Haven't been on for ages as have been really busy. Sorry if I have missed anyone, please have a hug if one is needed.
Up early today to take DD2 to cross country race and wake DS for work.
Went out last night with some friends and had a lovely meal. OH and DD1 went to Birmingham to see Mumford and sons and DS and 2 of his friends 'looked after' DD2, I think that it was probably the other way round!
Another meal out tonight, ooh it's a social whirl.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Morning all
Tru, thanks for the carol.
DW is chugging away, washing is spread on the radiators, hubby has to go to work briefly soon.
Plans for today include keeping warm & doing housework.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning All
Chilly here but not as bad as it has been, no frost at least. Just dropped DD off at the station, she's going for her work night out tonight so I will pick her up from Glasgow in the early hours, it costs upwards of £45 for a taxi home so I am being a good Mum!
Dinner last night was chicken wrapped in bacon with mash and veg, it was lovely to have a 'proper' dinner! Also made 2 lemon drizzle cakes with some lemons that were cluttering up the fridge.
Going to have a good clean and tidy today while I have the house to myself, we will probably put the decs up tomorrow.
Hope everyone is safe and well, hugs to those not feeling so good. Have a good weekend. Take care. XX0 -
Tru,
Can you not put the chocolate that you should have eaten in the window of the day that you did eat and sellotape it shut till the correct day?0 -
Good morning all,
I have been shopping and just finished putting it away. I didn't get too much as i am trying to run the freezer down a bit.
Washing as got to go on the airer. Not alot of ironing to do so i may leave that until hubby goes to work tonight. Need to have a good hoover through. The cake and bicuit tin are empty so i shall have to get some baking done.
Tru, thats our plan for next year too, to have an open fire. We used to have one in our old house and i just loved it. Well done on not buying another calendar. I wouldn't have been able to resist getting one.
Moorhen, enjoy your meal out.
Hm pizza for tea just because i have bits to use up with salad.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Good Morning all,bit of a chilly one here at the moment but it is December so what else can we expect.I found a packet of nuts in the back of the cupboard which I don't eat. No idea where they came from. must have been there for yonks so I have put them out on the patio for the birds with some scraps of bread for pudding
they vanished very quickly so I may get a fat ball from the pet shop and hang it out there After all the birds make me smile with their antics in the spring, so a wee treat won't hurt and it is almost Christmas.:)I'll also put some water out in an old bowl for them as well.I have a small robin in my garden that hangs around hopefully at this time of the year and he is quite a character and a bit of a show-off but I love watching him from my kitchen window
This morning I am going to finish all of the wrapping up before anything else is done and get it in seperate piles in the spare room. Then I shall make a start of my Christmas cards and hopefully get that all done today ,then some baking and that takes care of Saturday I have a curry to make for dinner tonight with LO chicken then its feet up and some t.v. and knitting I really know how to live it up
:)
Time for a large cup of tea I think
Have a great weekend everyone whatever you are doing and keep wrapped up warm
Cheers chums JackieO xxx0
