Gas CH 42.5p/hour

Update: Used less gas than I thought based on 10 hours @ 4pm - It was £5.02 at 12 am. So £1 less. Checking again today to see if same as Saturday. So if we use approx £5 gas a day over 26 weeks I reckon we will save approx £109 on last years bill. Could be more - could be less. It has been an interesting exercise so far.
Sunday use was £6.45 - only difference was more wind and used 1 hour extra water heat booster - so repeating tomorrow without booster to see what happens.0 -
I hope I am not hijacking this thread, but it is on the same vein. I moved home this year and due to the size of the property need to use my gch. Had my gas bill in and on the back British Gas says 1kilowatt hours give you 2 hours of warmth, if this is the case something is wrong.
I have a worcester combi boiler 28, and used 2 large and 1 small radiator on high and 1 medium radiator on 2, for 3hrs, my meter is in units, total units used in 3hrs = 4 which equates to over 11 kilowatts per hour!!!!
Does this seem about right, as no way can I afford to use the heating at this rate. Diane0 -

That's absolutely meaningless twaddle.
Your 11KW sounds more likely, but that will decline in the second hour, third hour etc - providing you have reasonable insulation and keep your doors and windows closed.0 -
Horseunderwater - have you applied for the warm homes discount with your supplier? Worht a shot.
The other thing woth looking at is if your supplioer has an energy fund - they may be able to help improve the heating:

Yes - back in Oct. Still not got it though. Supposed to be in letter format as my meter is pre pay key type not one of the new fangled smarty pants ones. Will get it in Feb 13 around the 22nd as that is my bill cycle day for the electric.
And yes I did look at BGas as they have a section for energy saving trust, but I do not have a debt to repay, so not sure if they can help any in other way.
However I am going to look at the Anglian water scheme to see what they offer. Had to use them in 2005 for something. I forget what, but they helped. So thanks for that link. It may prove useful to others as well.0 -
Further to earlier posts re gas use: 17 hours at 20 deg C 11th was £5.98 and today was £6.45 meter reading taken just after midnight for previous days usage. Am now going to keep the readings to a set day once per month on the 15th as that was the day I filled up the meter with £255 credit. Have used around £98 so far.
And I have another £255 sitting on the card at the old prices, which will not go through as new until I empty and refill the card up once more. A good saving.0
