First question is was your last bill an estimate? Second have you checked the reading your new supplier has sent is correct?Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Why are you still on Standard (which is what I assume you mean by 'normal')? It's the most expensive tariff. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

On the face of it, it seems a lot for 43 days of Gas - roughly 4,200 Kwh
It is however vital that you check the bills meter reading against the meter and that the bills reading is not Estimated (E) - Also that previous bills were not Estimated.
If this new bill is based on an actual reading, it would have caught up with any Under-estimations on previous bills0 -
i have used 399 units in the 41 days and that is actual meter Reading my dads account he was on a capped deal and it ran out in January but he didn't know switched to sp on fixed April0

I'm a bit confused with your posts, ( My account/Dads account ?)
Are you living with Dad and have taken over responsibilty for paying the gas bill directly to Scot Power with you as the named account holder?0 -
my dad has passed away so i have taken over the house so switching supplier0
-
Understand now, sorry you lost your Dad.
When you took over the house and registered yourself as the account holder, SP would have treated you as a 'New' account and put you on their expensive 'Standard' tariff - You are quite right to Switch away
But there still remains the problem of apparent huge Gas consumption, which if it is correct, means you will be paying very high bills no matter who the supplier is.
The key to this is getting hold of as many old Utility bills as you can, so you can build a picture of the Gas consumption over the years - It could be that it has always been high, ( Very large House, Poor Insulation, but faulty gas meters are very rare)
If your Dad didn't keep his bills, ask SP for copies - As a seperate account you don't have the right to demand these, unless you are an Executor to his estate, but if not, if you are politely persistant in explaining the situation to SP they may co-operate0 -
Metric or imperial meter? And which are you being billed for?
You say '399 units'. but there is no such measure-they are either cubic metres, or 100's cubic ft. If the meter is metric and you are billed for imperial, it will increase your billing by a factor of 280%. So start by checking your meter. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
i have a question see if some one can solve it bg are saying i need to pay £177 for 41 days of gas i pay 100 a month and was in credit as im leaving them im thinking this is to try ruin my Christmas is this normal im on standard package what do all you think.
Two years ago the December where the temperature barely raised over 0c, my heating was on 24/7, my bill for the month was £152, so £177 for 41 days is not necessarily out of the ordinary, and I doubt BG have a conspiracy to ruin your xmas. Since Wednesday I have used £11 of gas, so at thast rate I could easily use near £150 in gas.0 -
From the details given by the OP, he has a Metric Meter
(399 Units x 11.2 = 4468 Kwh - At 4p per Kwh this gives a bill of appx. £178)0
