Hi
I have scanned some old black and white photos at work and sent them to my home computer on a attachment, when I tried to open them a message came up asking what program I want to open them with and I picked the first choice on the list which was windows media...but when windows media opens I've no idea how to see the photos
I emailed the attachment to my daughters computer and she just clicked on it and it opened perfectly......she sent it back to me and I could see it!
can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong...cheers

If it's:
a) asking what program you want to open it with
or
b) suggesting windows media player as an option
then the file is not a valid image format eg. .jpg, .bmp., .png etc.
As the previous poster asked, let us know what the file extension is or give us the full file name eg. example.jpg0 -
Put the files on your desktop. Single click on one of them and then right click.
Select "Open with" and "Choose Default Program". If you've got any photo editing programs then select one of those, otherwise try Paint or Internet Explorer.0 -
thanks for your replies
the extention is .pdf
I tried the desktop method johnmc but it still wouldn't open
I have managed to do what I wanted to do ie send the photos to family via email because my daughter could open them on her laptop
cheers all0 -
I may be wrong but if it is a .pdf attachment then it needs to be opened using Acrobat Reader.0

You need a PDF Reader like Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader to open the attachments. Both are free, others are available. How do I add a signature?0

Using a photocopier, by any chance? Ours defaults to pdf scans, too - you need to change it to jpg if you want a "proper" photo format.
But, yes, you need a pdf viewer to see it on your machine. Most people have one installed - there are a lot of pdf files in circulation.
Either Adobe Acrobat Reader http://get.adobe.com/reader/ or (my preference) Foxit Reader http://www.foxitsoftware.com/Secure_PDF_Reader/ will do the job for you. Both are free. Make sure you deselect any toolbars included in the installation.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.0 -
Scanners also default to pdf, you should be able to change the output format to an image format in the scanner settings (or photocopier etc. IF you are using one of these)
To open pdf you need acrobat reader, acrobat pro, photoshop etc. You cannot open pdf in a standard image viewer.0
