British gas

Cannot believe how they do things.

I switched supplier end of Feb as our Gas/Electric still wasn't in our name since moving into our house in Oct 06.

Got my first ever Gas bill addressed correctly which stated the final amount of £237 just before Easter. Rang to say because it was so high (Oct - Feb usage) couldnt pay all of it till end of May. I was told if i waited this long, a debt collection agency would be around  Have had to go onto 3 monthly installments

Get 3 letters on Wed just gone, dated 9th April about Electric. Letter 1 addressed to the occupier, saying final bill 1p and to contact them asap as another person has told them they're living at the property and they've had to close the electric account (It's us, the same people).

Letter 2, saying welcome to your new home, your account has now been set up (took from 20.10.06 - 9.4.07). yet we switch supplier 28.2.07

Letter 3, addressed correctly, saying sorry you're living, final bill £43.

What on earth do they do in the offices. Im so annoyed with them and just shocked at how things work.

Hence a letter is being posted on Monday at how i was treated as a new customer.

Letter one would mean there was a difference between the electricity meter reading when the last person moved out and when you moved in. I would guess it's only for one unit minus a few days dual fuel discount.
Letter two is standard issue, it doesn't matter that you were changing supplier, you get it anyway. If they didn't bother sending letters confirming once accounts have been set up, I'm sure people would be complaining about that too.
Letter three is obviously the correct closing bill.

It must have been annoying having to call them repeatedly to try to get the accounts sorted out, however I'm slightly confused though as to why you didn't put some money aside to pay for the bill. Were you not expecting one?
  • No letter 1 is for us, because its say 'occupier' and now our names are registered at the property, they think someone else has moved in.

Letter 2 might be standard but it shouldn't of taken from 20.10.06 - 9.4.07 to put our names on the account.

Granted yes i should of put money away for the Gas bill, however i get paid monthly and unfortunately Aprils wage couldn't cover it, i had planned to pay it with this wage, but as i work in a school i dont get paid for holidays so 2 weeks off caught me out.

Though Mays monthly wage will cover it, though its not acceptable for them.
