Undoubtedly you have done the wrong thing here, but it isn't as if you blew it at the bookies or splurged it away on luxury items. I would point out that it isn't really in anyones interest to let an IVA fail at such an advanced stage, so you may find that your IP is more sympathetic than you imagine him or her to be.

You may well be dreading the call that you know you have to make, but I would doubt very much whether your provider hasn't come across this scenario before, or something very similar. Things can be done, where there's a will there's a way, and it may be that your IP will agree with you to extend the payment period to make up for the shortfall. Whatever else happens, please remember that it is only money and there are far more important things in life to worry about than money, just look at the case of that poor nurse, and how many lives that has devastated.
  • Please don't ever think of killing yourself over money issues. I know it's so hard (I've completed an IVA myself) but you WILL get through it.

My Mum used to tell me a terrible story about a friend of hers who's son killed himself over a debt. She always said it cost her more to bury him than it would have done to pay the debt off. This was ten years ago, he'd have been 27 now and could have paid it off ten times over.

Your family would rather have you, a million times over, even if you had to live in a tent (which you won't), than have their home and not have you.

    Hi

First of all, debt issues can be sorted no matter what the situation

This could not be more true. Given even a short amount of time, once you start attempting to resolve the situation it will very quickly get better, and you will feel better.

Within one month, post here with your situation, and I can guarantee it will be 10 time better than it is now.

I would like to say thank you for all your kind words and to have not judged me. I did ring today and i am receiving a call bk tomorrow to come clean. I did see my doctor who tried to put me on the sick which obvisouly would just add to my problems so i think you are all right as soon as i come clean it can only get sorted one way or another. I am trying to sort my life out this is why i entered into the iva in the first place. i will let you all know how it goes and once again thank you all, think things could have gone so much worse if it hadnt have been for your genourous advice.

My friend was in a similar situation to you she got an inheritance and didnt declare to IP she spent on household items and repairs that were going to pot as she had no spare funds due to restraints of IVA. She in the end came clean and told IP as she too was stressing over the issue. She had to show what she had received and how she had spent it. They then agreed some items were necessary expenditure for safety and reduced amount by that the rest she had to repay into the IVA. She obviously wasnt in a position to pay it so the IVA was extended by 8 months which was the time it took for her to repay the amount into the IVA that she had spent! Altho this was hard for her to mentally accept as she felt she had spent the money wisely and not had luxuries and she had her mind on the IVA ending but it was better than it failing etc. I would say be honest tell them afterall you mind can play tricks on you just thinking of the wot if's.
I have just finished an IVA and I considered bankrupcy and was told you can lose your home but that is an extreme situation if you wmortgage is grossly in arrears and if you dont have children. I was told if you have children and your mortgage is upto date (or nearly) they dont take your home! How true that is I cant guarantee but there is always light at the end of any tunnel it is just up to you when and how you step towards it xxx
