To kitten or not to kitten, that is the question....!

So, the story so far....

This time last year we had 3 cats, 2 female and 1 male. Male was ancient (and superb) and was put down almost exactly this time last year. The 2 girls left didn't really get on, but tolerated each other. So that brings us to now....

We had to have one of our girls PTS about 6 weeks ago, and since then our last girl, Tilts, has behaving really oddly. She's very clingy, has gone from being house trained with NO accidents to having to have a litter tray, and is very skittish. She sleeps with us every night, and drives us POTTY clawing at us at stupid o clock and wandering over our heads - we're too soft to shut her out the bedroom mind you....! It's hard to explain, she just seems to have gone a bit barmy! She's eating and drinking normally, and shows no sign of ill health. She definitely 'grieved' for our old man, and we're wondering if this is a similar thing, her behaviour's different this time though.

We've been offered a male kitten - not tiny but a couple of months old, and we're wondering whether it's a good idea or not. On the one hand we think it may help her - she's NEVER lived without another cat, right from being tiny. It may give her more confidence maybe? She's too scared to go outside recently, not sure why. However, on the other hand we're worried that she may resent the (potential) new arrival, and we'd hate to make her even more stressed.

So, any thoughts? Any advice or thoughts gratefully received....:)

  • I would take her to the vet first for a check over if her behaviour has markedly changed. If all is well then i would decide on a new cat or not. Hope she's better soon. x

Vet said that all was fine! Sorry, should have said that.
  • I once got a kitten to keep my older cat company because we had to have her companion PTS and she hated the kitten. It was a mistake really as she took years to accept him. She was acting in a similar way to your cat too- we thought she was lonely. I'd try a plugin like Pet Remedy asap to see if it helps. Also Bach's Rescue Remedy in her water.

I don't know, cats don't easily accept other cats too well and if she is getting on? Is it fair on her?
