Game stores group and nintendo Wii

My girlfreind visited a Game store to purchase a Wii, they had only 3 units in stock and told her if she wanted one she would have to buy the cover plan for £20, not knowing what to do my girlfreind phoned me from the shop floor for advice.
I told her to tell the woman (manager!) I did NOT want the cover plan to which the manager replied "sorry I cant sell you one without it". This is illegal right?

I contacted the store by phone my self and the woman told me "but people want the cover"

I then contacted head office and they said this was wrong and we will get one on order for you.

I'm just sorry for those people who was forced to pay £20 they didn't have to spend.

I have spent my hard earned money in this store for 8 years, pc, console games and controllers ... not anymore!

I feel this is because of nintendo's slow release of the console and stores capitalising on customers needs and frustrations.

dont know if the word illegal is right but you need to ensure you make a complaint about the woman in question if Head Office have told you she was wrong.

I would contact trading standards, have no idea if it's legal but in my opinion very wrong. Buy as you view do this aswell.

Surely this can't be a poilcy of Game? I know a couple of peeps who have bought a Wii from them without any "added extras"
I would try Game CS first and see what they say, I'm not sure Trading standards would get invloved as it's probably no different to selling them as part of a bundle.
That said though I'd rather walk out with an extra controller than some dodgy insurance lol maybe the mangager was below her targets for the month?

I totally agree with Lil_me, even if it is legal then it's still very wrong.

Me and my brother brought ours from GAME on two different occassions way back last year when they were even fewer of them around but we had no problems just buying the console by itself. Wasn't even mentioned to us about the cover plan (not that we would have brought it). Think it was just that particular store you went to.
  • i dont believe it is illegal as technically they dont have to sell you the item if they dont want to as adverting a product for sale is only inviteing an offer to purchase, so morrally wrong but in my opinion not illegal but i may be wrong
