combination water storage cylinder

Hi all

This is my first forum post so please bear with me.

I have a heating system powered by a Baxi boiler that is working fine although some years old now. The central heating system is also fine, heating up quickly, to temp and staying hot. The issue is with my hot water, which is running cold after just a couple of minutes....showers are not a fun time at home!

After some investigation, I know I have a combination water storage cylinder and have been advised that the tank itself needs replacing. The engineer suggested it would cost £400 to de-scale but that could expose crack or leaks which would end up needing a replacement water tank anyway. He also suggested that it would make sense to move to a mains pressure hot water tank which would stop me from needing to have the boiler on continuous.

The total cost for replacing the water tank is looking to be around £1500, which, before xmas, is not a fun place to be either!

I have 3 questions for anyone that might be able to assist.

1 - Does the £1500 seem reasonable to purchase and fit a new 210 litre mains pressure water tank?

2 - Is it advisable to switch to a mains pressure system?

3 - Is there anything that you would suggest instead of any of the above?

Just FYI - I have a 3 bed house, 2 mains fed showers and it is not a combi boiler fitted.

Many thanks

Brad

Has the HW just suddenly stopped working or has it been iffy for a while?

A move to a combi at this stage would probably be inadvisable . What make/model is the boiler and is it working ok ? Is the system fully pumped or gravity?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
