Charges but no details

I wrote asking The Bank of Scotland for details of my bank charges. After a wait of more than 40 days I received a list of a few years with the rest being promised within 2 weeks. The problem is that the list only details the date and the amount of the charge. As the charges are from several years ago I do not know what each charge is for. Should they have given more details or should I just asume that all the charges listed can be reclaimed? I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem and what they did about it. Thanks for reading.
