Just ran Thunderbird email client to check my emails.
and under ntlworld.com address i had 589 emails, all with delivery status notification (failure), all dated between 4/12 - 2/12 but I never sent any emails on that day and certainly never 589 of them.
System is clean. Malwarebytes and Eset Smart Security both updated and Eset running all the time.
Anyone else getting any of these emails?

update make that 1152

It sounds like someone is using your email address as the return one on a batch of spam:(

It's trivially easy to do, and unfortunately there isn't much you can do about it, as it doesn't even require your machine to be infected, it can be a friend or contacts machine that is infected and using the address of an email it's received to spam on (it's a very old trick some viruses used to do as it makes it harder to locate the infected machine).

    bounced them back ?

rechecked thunderbird again, and guess what more of them
seems they are all from googlemail. i have a googlemail account but these have been sent to my ntlworld account.
as each one says FROM ***********.ntlworld.com

i'm not hijacked there are no emails in my SENT as i dont use that account for sending emails.
and these are all in the INBOX

Sorry it may be too early for my brain to function but I don't understand your post. You say 'seems they are all FROM googlemail' but you then say 'each one says FROM ***********.ntlworld.com.

As said earlier, it sounds like your email has been used as the 'reply to' address from a mass spam out. it's pure randomness and pretty much could have happened to anyone so there is no reason for any unknown emails to be in your sent box.

It's broadly equivalent to having someone else's junk mail turn up at your door because the sender put your address on the back of the envelope instead of their own.

I've removed my name from the email address so no one here can use it.
anyideas on how i can find out who is using my email addy
apart from complaining to virginmedia about it

Maybe you should have been as considerate with the other addresses you posted on a public forum.
I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.

You weren't thorough enough; mouseover still reveals the whole thing. :o

I dont post all of my email address's on any public forums.
I use 1 email address with the extension yahoo.co.uk for any forums, sites i join never the ntlworld email except on of course virginmedia website and southern electric, and my bank.
i believe that the email address was used by the same people who keep phoning me to tell me theres a problem with my computer. scammers.
its a known fact virginmedia uses indian call centres, and it only needs 1 person from that call centre to copy your details onto a flash drive, email, address, phone number and then give it to their scammer friends/family.
This is the 1 reason i dont like outside uk call centres, and why i believe every company in the UK that uses outside uk call centres should be tax heavily for using them. Make it cost more to outsource.
This in turn of course would then create jobs in the UK.
